dear batchmates,

oh, what a night! the batch 86 party last night was the best i have attended. so many new faces that i haven't seen in 18 long years. so much has changed for some people while some have remained the same. to all our batchmates based abroad, i will try to relay the details as best i can.

i arrived at the imperial palace suite at around 430pm to help gene and isabel arrange the set-up of the function room and fine tune small details to make sure we did not overlook anything for the party. philip secosana arrived shortly after, bringing some prizes with him for the raffles. there were several prizes for that evening - 40 major prizes including some contributed by our batchmates here and in the US, and toys from macneil. among the prizes were a panasonic personal ref bought through the contribution of frederick tanengge, digital camera courtesy of dennis jao, a kenneth cole travel bag courtesy of catherine tiu, food steamer, foot spa, cordless kettle, bath towels, and lots of nice prizes acquired via the
shopping skills of our very own gene jo hari-ong gan. there were balloons that adorned the stage and other parts of the ballroom to give the place a more festive look. at 6 pm, the registration table was set, we had guest books prepared for attendees to fill in their names and contact numbers, we had bottles of welch's grape sparkling juice for everyone to take home as souvenir and calling cards of our website. alexander tee brought several copies of the batch 86 yearbook left over from 1987, still in mint condition, to be sold to any interested batchmate.

among the early attendees were annabeth see and jane lim lee who voluntarily took charge of the registration of incoming guests, distributing the name tags, the souvenirs, and taking pictures of all of them. great job, you two! lam dan hung and husband arrived early and i must say, despite being the more senior member of batch 86, she has managed to look every bit as young-looking as the other more junior batchmates, even younger-looking perhaps. maribel trajano, still
pretty and cute, i found out, works as assistant manager in the international services department of banco de oro's head office. thompson chua of IV-orange came with his wife, reynaldo see also, sara santiago, benedict ong, julie muniz, cristina tan, who wore her hair long at nagparebond... o shampoo lang yun? josephine tan, see nang to, with pretty wife in tow, wore a bright smile all night far from his serious-looking and "siga" image in grade school and high school. he had an amusingly happy reunion with pamela "amy" gruba-medina. i was delighted to see josephine pascual and melissa sy after almost 2 decades. they didn't change even much after having 2 or 3 kids. albie sia came wearing pink printed polo.
shane chan, rolly tan, culbert santiago, peterson cedeno, tomas ariate, pia lu, belinda tan, carmen tan at chan, karen and christine tan, jennifer ong, ang dami-dami! naguguluhan akong ikwento.

highlights of the evening:

as usual, philip secosana was our host in tandem with a hired host named richard. their combination made for a lively and entertaining program. we had norma claveria do the opening prayer which was impromptu and good
despite the very short notice. all those years spent teaching at st. stephen's has obviously honed her skills in public speaking. first game was the "how well do you know your partner" won by jefferson chua and wife (he didn't graduate with us). i remember a question for the wives that went something like,"kapag naliligo ang asawa mo, ano ang una niyang sinasabon?" annabelle go wrote "ulo" while her husband wrote "BREAST." hilarious! we wondered whose breast he was rubbing. :)

then we had a "name that tune" playing songs that we grew up with - the 80s. this time, 2 reps from each section played the game. the contest was won by alex tee and benedict ong who surprised us with his commanding knowledge of almost all the songs played by the dj. this was followed by a raffle draw. when joey ong's name was drawn, we prodded him to sing us a song which he gamely did singing "superman" by five for fighting. pang american idol talaga! claudine ragas also sang 2 songs last night. mukha talagang singer sa itsura niya, with high heeled shoes, black pants and
dark, semi-wrinkled blouse, and her hair, i don't know how to describe it pero nakaayos pang-stage.

star of the night award went to... drum roll.. .for the male it was dominique tan! for the female, it was a much harder choice dahil ang daming magaganda sa batch natin. ika nga ng guest-host, "bakit parang mas maraming maganda sa batch niyo kaysa guwapo? lugi ang mga babae." i thought he was right. ang dami ngang magaganda. but i think the choice went to the lady who really made herself up nicely for the evening. the
award went to mylene aquilino.

the digital camera and the panasonic ref were the targeted prizes last night. i forgot which one won the digital camera but the ref went to jimmy tan's wife helen.

one lively game featured rival sections throwing foam at each other separated only by a big piece of blanket and whoever was left with the least number of foams in their territory will be the winner. i forgot which section won it but we were huffing and puffing after.

i would like to thank all those who attended this event. you made this successful so congratulate yourselves. on behalf of the organizers, i would like to thank all those who supported this event. kayong mga nagcontribute kahit wala kayo rito like eileen tan, men at work, lahat ng nagsponsor ng prizes, may listahan kami. baka may makalimutan ako. pero
malaki ang pasasalamat namin sa inyo. huwag kayo magsawa. you know who you are.

i'll stop here. i'll let our batchmates tell the rest.

THANKS......

1. Jane Lim Lee and Anabeth Siy - for helping us in the reception table because Annabelle Go came late, (how come we're not surprised)

2. Lam Dan and Husband Albert, Dennis Agero and Wife Erika - for coming early, and staying until the end of the party.

3. Macneil Tan - also for coming early, and giving away tons and tons of toys. Dialogue ni Macneil "Ilan na baby mo?" then dadampot sya dun sa mga bunch of toys, yan ang tunay na Santa.

4. Arnold Sy/Tang - one of the earliest to come, but somehow nobody seems to remember him, except maybe Jane Lim Lee, but she's not sure also, it turned out that he was from batch '85, we still welcomed him but he decided to go home na lang, ni-refund naman namin ung
bayad nya.

6. Dennis Jao and Thomas Ariate - for gracing our party, after so many years away from your motherland, the Philippines will always be your home.

7. Amethyst Co - for helping me with the scoring and with the games.

8. Stephen Co - for accompanying my wife while she's watching her husband making a fool of himself on stage. hehehe

9. Dominique Tan - Wala lang, tuwang tuwa lang ako na nakita ko sya.

10. Sponsors - Thank you for your contributions, monetary, prizes, lechon, beers, etc, etc, you know who you are, kasi some like to stay anonymous, so from all of us to all of you, Thank you very much.

11. To all those Lovely, Beautiful, Charming Ladies - I have to admit, ang gaganda ng mga Female Batchmates natin, medyo ginanahan akong mag host nung nakita ko kayo lahat. The guys, wala ng pag-asa, may kasabihan nga pag ang guys tumatanda, lalong sumasarap or something like that, well, not anymore... Thank you girls for dressing up like we were in a prom night, and for adding beautiful colors to our party.

12. To Ma'am Norma Claveria - for leading us in the opening prayer, kahit impromptu, and for not asking us to sing the school song

13. To the singers - Joey Ong, Macneil Tan and Claudine Ragas, thank you for the beautiful songs you gave us. Special mention to Ms. Roxy Ong, ayaw mag cooperate ung sound system sa kanya. So, you'll have to wait for the next reunion para marinig mo siyang kumanta. Thank you Gie for your patience.

14. To all Basketball Batch 86 Players - for participating in the games, and being "sports" enough to wiggle your butt in front, kaso talo kayo kay Albert, may hakot kasi eh. Hehehe

15. To the 5 couples - Thank you for sharing with us your secrets and gamely answering the questions, hmmmmm, kaso nagkaproblema ata kay annabelle, hehehe, something about the "breast" and "bed" issue.

16. To Albie - for having the patience in inviting all his friends to the party, it was really nice to see you all again.

17. To Jamelee Gan - for coming all the way from La Union just to see old friends and familiar faces.

18. To Shane Chan - minus his equally famous brother, for being the most "tisoy" guy in the whole room, and for calling the numbers instead of texting the answers in the "texting game"

19. To Jefferson Cua, Daniel Brito and Vicky Ang - for considering Batch 86 still your school batch. We will always welcome you.

20. To IV-Red - for having the most number of attendees in a class, we have 22 IV-Red's in the party, second is IV-Yellow with 16 classmates.

21. To the Organizing Committee - Gene, Benson, Isabel, Andrew, Henry, Alex, to the untiring effort you have put into this party, texting and calling friends, sacrificing work, time with family. Inspite of what you hear from other people, you still went for it. Because you always knew seeing the smiles in our batchmates faces will make this all worthwhile. It was really great working with you guys. YOU ROCK!! But really, its time to pass the torch.

22. and TO ALL OF YOU who attended and supported this party, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.... for sharing with us your stories, for inflicting us with your smiles, and for helping the typhoon victims in our own little way. Words cannot describe how we, the organizing committee, appreciate your presence. It was pretty overwhelming to see all of you.

The reunion cum Christmas party was indeed a success. Thanks and congrats to the organizers - Philip, Tukayo, Gene, Henry, Sabel and the rest of the gang.

Time flew literally that night - the hours seem like mere minutes. Time just wasn't enough- so much people yet so little time. My only regret was that I wasn't able to move around - dami pa namang pretty girls :)

Philip, you have superb hosting skills. Walang binatbat sayo si Edu Mansanitas. Keep up the good work. Balita ko naghahanap sila ng kapalit ni Joey sa Channel 7. Ang bagong pamagat - Mel and Philip.

My only complaint:

When I arrived at the venue last friday night, they couldn't locate my yellow-coded name tag. They wrote my name on a blank name tag with PURPLE ink. I guess that made me belong to IV-PURPLE!!! Had a difficult time locating my classmates at IV-Purple! Hehe.

Some suggestions for the next reunion:

Venue:

SSHS gym

Proposed Dress Code:

White Polo and Khaki shorts for the guys
White Blouse and Violet Skirt for the girls

Kidding aside, I look forward to our reunion in 2006. To all those who said that we should help, I agree!!

Merry Christmas to all.
